The Kitchen Is Going Metal — But Only Where It's Wet

Walk any Chinese cabinet factory floor this quarter and you'll hear the same number: stainless steel kitchens grew about 35% in 2025, to roughly 52,000 sets and RMB 1.8 billion. Small against the whole category. Loud as a signal. Homeowners renovating old apartments - the segment that now drives more than 45% of the market - are telling us, through their purchases, that ordinary board cabinets fail them somewhere specific. Guess where.

The sink. The dishwasher gap. The steam above the kettle. Water decides how long a kitchen lives, and it decides it early.

What the Stainless Boom Gets Right - and Where It Overcorrects

Some factories read that 35% and conclude the future is a full steel kitchen. I don't buy it. We've supplied all-metal kitchens for commercial projects; homeowners feel the difference within a month. Doors sound hollow. Finish options shrink. A kitchen stops feeling like furniture and starts feeling like a canteen.

The lesson hiding in the stainless numbers is narrower, and more useful: put metal exactly where water lives, and keep wood-feel everywhere else. That's a manufacturing decision, not a marketing one. It changes your BOM line by line.

Here's how we made that call at Kebao Boloni. The sink cabinet is built from 16mm single-sided embossed aluminum board, with a sealed drain outlet and an aluminum metal lining running the front edge - two barriers at the one spot where leaks are routine, not rare. Every cabinet in the kitchen carries anodized titanium-aluminum front edge banding. Anodizing matters: it holds color and resists water and heat without the yellowing you get from PVC banding after a couple of humid summers. Every base cabinet ships with a standard aluminum front connection rod, so the carcass that holds your countertop stays rigid for years, not months.

And the dry 80%? ENF-grade board, formaldehyde at or below 0.025mg/m³, with a signed environmental commitment. Kitchens connect to dining rooms and living rooms. The cabinet next to your dining table should still be furniture.

The Honest Question for Any Buyer

If your kitchen quote doesn't itemize wet-zone construction - sink base material, edge banding process, front reinforcement - you're buying a photo, not a kitchen. Ask the factory to show you the sink cabinet cross-section and name the alloy and the process. Fifteen-year kitchens are decided by those two answers, and almost nothing else.

If you want to see the spec sheet for our aluminum sink cabinet and the full kitchen system, the product pages at www.bolonihomegroup.com carry the details, or send us your kitchen layout and we'll mark exactly which components go aluminum and where the ENF board does the work.
